What's in a Name?
"So the poets sayA label you wear everyday."
I reviewed my previous entry and I put there that the sweetest thing one could say to me was "My Name." And a friend of mine copied my answer...joke!
Ironically, I 'm quite bad with names. In my line of work I meet a lot of people that it becomes hard to keep track of their names. I feel so bad whenever I forget some person's name. So embarassing. I need to change that. I need to remember people's names.

Anyway I browsed through some blogs and encountered some people named after famous brands or companies...like Nestle, Henessey, etc. I wonder why some parents would name their kids after brands ( I suppose their favorite brand).
I guess Nestle and Henessey are fine. They sound alright. So would Ford and Macintosh (nickname: Mac). But what if your parents name you "Coca-Cola"? I know its the most valuable brand name in the world today...but what would your nickname be? Coca? Coke? Or what about Home Depot? Or Wal-Mart? Or Exxon? Or . Hewlett-Packard? And some of the other Fortune 500 Companies?
Labo no? I don't think I want to be named Boeing or Kroger.

On to another name: Nicolette Belle. I thought it was a catchy name: two first names for a name. I wonder if that's her real name or just a screen name.
I've heard her name for a long while now. She's supposedly one of the country's top supermodels. She was once featured in a TV show, where she tells of how her real life is so much different from the hi-class fashion world.
I remember one of the most hilarious films I've seen: Zoolander. It's about this male supermodel Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller), who constantly wins the "Male Model of the Year" award. One day, though he is beaten by the hot newcomer Hansel (Owen Wilson). And because he lost that award, Derek starts searching for a new meaning in his life.
Until now, I laugh when my friends mimic some of the scenes. The facial expressions. The walks.
Imagine Ben stiller saying: Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking? Or how the two models engage in a duel called a "walk-off". Or Owen Wilson saying: Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that.
The movie depicts models in a really rude way: pretty dumb people.
I guess I was that way as well. I couldn't care much for models (except one particular model, but I don't think she ever did ramp modeling). Modelling ought to be a sideline and not a primary job, I think. The longetivity for modelling is short and I thought that there isn't really much to do except have nice abs (or in the case of girls, be thin) and look pretty.
I mean, it's just WALKING down the ramp. How hard can that be?
Well I watched a show when I was in Boracay, a fashion show about swimwear. There were a lot of models there among the guys were Borgy Manotoc (ok girls you can scream now) and the girls, I think Borgy's girlfriend was there, Bubbles Paraiso was there, and NICOLETTE BELLE.
That's when I realized that perhaps WALKING, too, was a talent. Because Nicolette walked better than any one of those girls. I don't know how to explain it but she was graceful. She was not overly bouncy or stiff or aloof, she was graceful and was communicative to the audience (imagine me describing a walk...and it's just a walk). She wasn't overly flirty to be crass, just enough flirting for class.
I scoured the net for photographs or her. To my surprise there wasn't anything much on the net (mas marami pang hits on my crush than her...to think Ms. Belle is supposedly some hotshot supermodel who remains to be active to this date).
I got into this PMAP site, but they had headshots and this print-ad for tweeds. Nothing on the ramp. Other than that, this is the only thing I found-- a scanned FHM magazine:

Unfortunately this does not capture her gracefulness on the ramp. Oh well, basta magaling siya. She made me respect ramp models. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
